The Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) would like to unveil the following programme covering the whole year.


In an effort to expand club competitions in our zone, CECAFA have launched the above tournament that will be contested by FA Knock out champions/or clubs that finished second in MA'S. The inaugural event is slated for Sudan May 20 to June 5, 2014. CECAFA and the Sudan FA have secured full sponsorship that will cover air tickets for teams and delegations, accommodation, local transport and prize money.


Rwanda are staging this event in August and as you all know, this is the biggest zonal club cup completion in Africa. The Champion clubs from all the zonal FA's are expected to take part in the event. The President of Rwanda HE President Paul Kagame has already honored his pledge of USD 60,000 prize money. CECAFA and the Rwanda FA are finalizing sponsorship package that will cater for all the expenses for the teams and all the delegations.


As you realize, the Olympic Games will be staged in 2016. In an effort to prepare our teams, CECAFA has planned the Under 23 event in Sudan in September this year. The Government of Sudan is providing full sponsorship of the event.


Ethiopia are the designated hosts of this event which we have programmed late November to Mid December in Addis Ababa. CECAFA delegation will visit Addis Ababa after the World Cup to finalise the arrangements and sponsorship package.


CECAFA and Supersport last week signed a four year agreement that will run from 2014-2017. CECAFA competitions will be covered LIVE throughout this period.


The world Governing body FIFA have agreed to organize a seminar for CECAFA communications Directors in Dar from April 30th to May 3rd 2014. All the chairmen of the FA's, General Secretaries, and Communications officers from the entire member Associations will attend. The seminar will be graced by the Secretary General of FIFA, Jerome Valcke who arrives in Dar on 30th.

The Council for East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has confirmed Ethiopia will host the 2014 Senior Challenge Cup.

"Ethiopia are the designated hosts of the Challenge Cup from November to December," Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye said.

"A Cecafa delegation will visit Addis Ababa after the World Cup to finalise arrangements and sponsorship."

It is the first time Ethiopia will hold the regional tournament 2006.

Musonye also announced that Rwanda will host the Club Championship in August and confirmed that the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, has already honoured his pledge of US$60,000 towards the prize money.

"Cecafa and the Rwanda FA are finalizing the sponsorship package that will cater for expenses for all teams and delegations at the event," added Musonye.

Zambia face Tanzania in Cecafa Cup opener

Zambia will kick-off the 2013 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup outing in East Africa with a possible tricky tie against Tanzania on 28 November in Machakos Town.

The CECAFA Cup takes place from 27 November-December 12 in Kenya.
Zambia’s other Group B rivals are Burundi and Somalia.

According to the tournament schedule, Zambia’s second group match at CECAFA will be on 1st December against Burundi.

Chipolopolo will later face Somalia in their final group match on December 4.
Zambia is the only guest team at this year’s CECAFA Cup in Kenya.

Hotly contested Cecafa elections bring in Uganda’s Lawrence Mulindwa

Secretary General, Nicholas Musonye [of Kenya], says it was a healthy exercise with every member state expressing its democratic right and added that Kenya’s Local Organising Committee for the Challenge Cup was doing a fine job.

LAWRENCE Mulindwa of Uganda is the only new member of the Cecafa Executive Committee after hotly contested elections of the organisation in Nairobi on Tuesday morning.

All the four executive member slots were up for election after the expiry of terms of the incumbents, three of whom sought re-election. Sehalu Gebremariam of Ethiopia, the former Ethiopia Football Association President did not seek to retain the Vice-chairmanship of Cecafa but he attended the congress meeting.

Djibouti marks world women’s day with football tourney

As the whole world celebrated the International women’s day, Djibouti Football Federation has marked the global occasion with football competition held for female soccer teams that came to an end here in the capital Djibouti on Saturday, 8th of march 2014.

The competition gathered 8 women’s teams with Balbala winning the final match after humiliating their Ambouli rivals by 2-1 in a hotly-contested match played at the National technical centre facility here in the capital on Saturday.

Kenya moved one place to 117th position in the world and 33nd in Africa, while Tanzania improved five positions to 124th, and 36th placed while Sudan is in 130th position in world and 39th in Africa. Rwanda has moved two places up to 127th in the latest world rankings released by the Federation of International Football Association (Fifa) on Thursday. Amavubi's last competitive match was against Uganda away in Kampala which ended goalless and helped Rwanda to move from 129th to 127. While Rwanda moved to 129th in the world, it is placed in 38th position in Africa. Neighbours Uganda have dropped one place to 86th spot after their draw against Rwanda. Nonetheless, Uganda remains the best placed East African country and 22nd in Africa. Ghana is leading in Africa but dropped one place in world to 24th position; Algeria is in second position and improved six places on Fifa ranking to 24th position. The second placed in Cecafa, Ethiopia improved two places to 93rd position in the world and one place in Africa to rank 24th.
